January 2006 Archives

I stepped onto the porch of our building, breathing warm air in to my thinly covered hands. Nippy, but not too bad. I finished my stretching routine and began my warm-up walk. Everything was so calm. No cars, no wind, just a hint of light in the eastern sky. Dark everwhere else. I started running with my footfalls breaking the silent morning. I passed the first runner. I returned her smile with one of my own, proudly completmenting each other on making it out of bed and getting out to run. A mile later, another runner, this time it was a nod of acknowledgement.

As I ran, the sky got lighter, the air around me, warmer and more and more people made their way to work. I passed several, looking at them the same as I did to the others. I never connected like I did with the runners. There was just something underlyingly cool about being out before everyone else.

Many thanks to the fine gentleman in the Brocach Irish Pub on Saturday night, about 9:45 PM. The Badger Hockey team just got swept by Minnesota, and it wasn't pretty. You must be a big fan, and knew that we needed something to cry in. We were nearly done with out beers and thinking about leaving, when the bell rang and the bartender announced that the next round for everyone was on you.

Imagine the surpise on everyone's faces when they learned that the drinks they just ordered didn't cost them anything. Then imagine their face when they thought about what they just ordered, thinking it should've been something different had they known it was free.

So, again, thanks. I hope that we meet so that I can thank you personally.

I saw this commercial a week ago. I knew right then that I needed it to play on the back of my eyelids every morning. I would've posted it earlier, but couldn't find it. Thanks to TriMama, now I can.

Wait for it to load and press play. Source and more info.

Kris inquired about today's Conference Championship games last night. She initially thought that Seattle was playing Pittsburgh. I corrected her, noting that the only way they will play each other will be in the Super Bowl. She quickly retorted by saying that they will be playing each other in the big game. With Pittsburgh beating Denver to become the first six-seed in the Super Bowl, she's halfway there. And, with Seattle beating up Carolina early the the second half, she's well on her way to being right.

Just in case you're wondering, Kris thinks Pittsburgh will take home the Lombardi Trophy.

Walt Disney World throws a big party early in January every year. It's so big that thousands of people flock to the resort to run either a 5K, half marathon, or full marathon. For the first time, Disney raced the half marathon the day before the full marathon. The really crazy people signed up to do both. It caught on, so Disney decided to award a special medal to those that finished both races. The medal is in the likeness of Goofy. The dual race became known as the Goofy Challenge.

Joe Bator was one of the crazies that decided he was up for the Goofy challenge. But, after the event, Disney wouldn't post the results in fear of promoting it as a race. Joe was a bit peeved and decided to do something about it. He compiled them, and I agreed to format and host the results. It's quite the impressive list.
