I have always thought about getting LASIK surgery. At first, cost was the major prohibition, then I started hearing stories about a select few patients seeing halos around lights at night, and having poor night vision in general. These fears aside, I looked into it a bit more, and learned that I was nearing the limit of nearsightedness allowed by some doctors (-7). Since my eyes have gotten steadily worse each year for the past 19 years, and the surgery may not even get my eyes to 20-20, it grew less and less appealing. Now's there's a lot of stories of botched operations and worse or no sight after the operation. I think contacts are a very fine alternative right now. I can still see with some patience and a small additional cost. To me, my sight is worth more than the pleasure of being able to see the clock in the morning. Because that's about all that would change.
