I have always thought about getting LASIK surgery. At first, cost was the major prohibition, then I started hearing stories about a select few patients seeing halos around lights at night, and having poor night vision in general. These fears aside, I looked into it a bit more, and learned that I was nearing the limit of nearsightedness allowed by some doctors (-7). Since my eyes have gotten steadily worse each year for the past 19 years, and the surgery may not even get my eyes to 20-20, it grew less and less appealing. Now's there's a lot of stories of botched operations and worse or no sight after the operation. I think contacts are a very fine alternative right now. I can still see with some patience and a small additional cost. To me, my sight is worth more than the pleasure of being able to see the clock in the morning. Because that's about all that would change.

With the transfer to the new host, there have been some back-end improvements throughout the site. First, there are two new subdomains, krisandrob.robbyb.com and pics.robbyb.com. KrisandRob.com will still get you there, but all the pictures have been moved inside the pics subdomain, so any external links to those are broken. I am trying to figure out how to automatically redirect them, but my .htaccess hacking experience is limited, so if anyone knows anything, let me know. I will be exploring more of my newfound options with the web host in the future, but hopefully I won't break anything. Thank you for your support.
Around the web, there's some serious discussion on syndicating weblogs through different feeds. Basically, clicking on the
here or on the right, you can get my posts through a news reader. I have tried FeedReader and AmphetaDesk, but they just didn't do it for me. Then, I happened upon NewsGator which works within Outlook. I am finding it handy, but still something is missing. It took me a bit, but I discovered I miss the design around the website. Take eating at a restaurant versus taking it home; the scene in which you dine adds to the entire experience. Reading blogs from within the source page has a total different experience than reading the text within sterile confines of Outlook. Until something else comes along, I will continue to visit the sites on my blogroll and others through web browsers, rather than within Outlook.
Thirty-six payments and three years later, my car is now really mine. All mine. It's a great feeling knowing that I won't have to make those payments anymore, and that money can be used for my other debts.
We're back. After some really weird issues, RobbyB.com is alive and kicking once again. Whew, I was worried we'd never come back.
Seems like the whole crew is back at it under the direction of Christopher Guest. Neve met a movie of his I didn't like.
In light of the recent events with our living space, I am happy to report that tomorrow the wife and I will be signing our life away for another year. The new place promises more closets, a clean, up-to-date bathroom, and a spacious kitchen with a dishwasher. There's also a view of the lake, a parking spot and a block cut off of my walk to work. Oddly enough, it was the first place we (I) looked at, same as last year. Let's hope they don't kick us out again.
Do you operate a non-profit organization? Are you looking for fundraising campaign? If so, enter your group to win The Today Show Green Room Book. More Than Money won the auction Today had, with a winning bid of more than $27,000 going to the Boys and Girls Club. Now, they are raffling the book to another non-profit group so that they can use it to raise funds. Cool.
What sane child would want a doll that looked exactly themselves? Yours does? Well, here you go.
From WTVQ in Lexington, Kentucky:
Lots of salt trucks are on the road around Kentucky lately, meaning it's a perfect time for a tequila spill! 18-hundred gallons of Pepe Lopez spilled at the Brown Forman distillery in Louisville this morning. Firefighters raced out to the hazardous materials call because the 80-proof tequila was pouring into Louisville's sewer system. Brown Forman says a worker was unloading a tanker truck and put the hose in a receiving tank that was already full. No word on the exact monetary loss, but we did some checking and found that a liter of Pepe Lopez runs 15-99 at Liquor Barn. Do the math: about four liters go into a gallon, so a gallon of tequila runs about 64 dollars. That checks in at over 115 thousand dollars for all that spilled tequila!
From my new favorite site, this article tells about trailer life:
Herrin said he was drunk and partying in his trailer when he and three young women cut Thora up with a knife and a machete, and ripped its body to shreds.I will let that quote speak for itself.
Ever wondered what RobbB.com would look like shizzolated? Here ya go. [via Phil]
I can't imagine the distraught this couple must have gone through.
A really cool flash game that actually teaches you something. Letters will learn you typing so good, you won't even know it. Of course, my best so far is 97, the top score is 8425. He must not have Autocorrect turned on.
Why aren't smokers "smokaholics" in the same way alcoholics and chocoholics are 'holics?
A Washington Monthly article written in 1980 discusses the progression of the Space Shuttle program, citing delays, cost overruns, and other budget-cutting measures as the potential undoing of NASA Human Spaceflight. It describes in eerily the potential problems with the delicate tiles, the reason for insulation on the fuel tank (in the full-text version), and the (dis)ability for the crew to bail out using ejection seats.
Overheard in the office today:
Co-worker 2: "Yeah, but the one in Pennsylvania did! That means more winter!"
It just kind of cracked me up at how serious the conversation was, that's all.
