March 2002 Archives

I actually got outside yesterday and did some upkeep on our caches yesterday, as well as found two more. It was a great day. I even got to fly my "pocket kite."

1. If you could eat dinner with and "get to know" one famous person (living or dead), who would you choose? My first reaction is Albert Einstein, but he might talk above me.
2. Has the death of a famous person ever had an effect on you? Who was it and how did you feel? I was at a wedding when Princess Diana died. I remember someone saying to me, "this is one of those things that you will know where you were when it occurred." And it was. The other was the Challenger exploded. (I was in church in sixth grade.)
3. If you could BE a famous person for 24 hours, who would you choose?I would be me as a famous person. I would like to know what it's like to work hard to have any privacy.
4. Do people ever tell you that you look like someone famous? Who? Once, someone thought I was Matthew McConaughey.
5. Have you ever met anyone famous? Not really.

Finally, Ann Coulter has summed up what has been rolling around in my head ever since I watch the last dreadful moments of the Oscars.

Everyday at work I turn on my radio. It's not that I really listen to it. I have the volume turned down low so it won't disturb anyone else, but loud enough so that I can just hear it. It's too quiet if I don't have it on. One thing that I have noticed is that beyond hearing the top hits three times a day, there are a few songs that still get daily airtime. One of which is Good Ridance (Time of My Life) by Green Day. (They recently had a VH1 documentary on their Album Dookie.) While I find it a great tune, I find it interesting that it's played practically everyday, that's all.

I constantly am tweaking the site stuff, but this time I promise I will leave it alone. This should be the last one. At least, for a little while.

Being a family member of a victim of a fatal accident, I know how these people feel. I am sure they know that by listening to the tapes, nothing will change the outcome of that fateful day. But, by listening to the tapes, they will have one more memory of their loved one, one more thing to hold on to.

After more than ten years, I still find new things to remember, something to keep the memories alive, and not let my brother fade away. I know exactly how they feel.

Kris was in the news a few weeks back. She was shopping for some stuff, and the news hounded her, asking for hew views on the basketball tournaments headed to town. I recorded the show, and digitized it. You can watch it here. It's about 1MB big & and you need Windows media player to see it.

I went on a business trip to get training for my company last week. I had to lug along a computer and I started to write down what I was seeing. It manifested into a semi-full diary. Read it if you like.

1. What is your favorite time of year? The changing of the seasons into and out of summer.

2. What is it about your favorite season that, well, makes it your favorite season? The temp is right, and there is much anticipation in the air.

3. What is your least favorite time of year? Why? When winter drags its heels in relenting to spring. Basically, right now.

4. Do you do anything to celebrate or recognize the changing of seasons? My birthday commonly falls on the first day of fall. That's about it.

5. What's your favorite thing to do outside? Anything outside is good. By driving around with the windows down is fun. Camping and hiking is the ultimate.

So far today, my hits have more than doubled due to searches for the two riddles I posted a while back. My e-mail had the answers posted at the bottom, didn't theirs? And why hasn't anyone commented, thanking them for the answers? Or, are they looking for the originators of the teasers? Mmmmm....

I added some new pictures from over the weekend. They're pretty cool. I also submitted another picture to my Mirror Project collection.

1. What's your favorite animal? I think jaguars are very cool. Badgers are neat, too.

2. What pets have you had in your lifetime? Only fish.

3. Is there any specific pet that you've wanted but never had? Why? I think I have outgrown my allergies enough to have a dog. I would love to have a large yard for it to run around in.

4. Are you allergic to any animals? Very allergic to cats. They're stupid anyways.

5. Do you have any 'pet' pet peeves (your pets or others')? Cats. All cats.

Another six months, and another new design. I kinda like this one. Less bold, more subtle. If you see any goofs, let me know.

A co-worker brought up the idea of relative panic today. It seems that every point in your life, there is something to panic about. Almost always, when looking back, you realize how insignificant it was to panic. But, always, it seems that when in the present, there could be nothing worse. It always helps to think about how absurd it was to over react at the time, and try to apply that same thought to the current situation. Over reacting doesn't really get you anything anyways.

What is greater than God, more evil than the Devil, that every poor person has, and that every rich person needs, and if you swallow it, you will die? Answer coming in a few days. Leave your answer in the comments.

The employees at stinkfactor.com performed a great experiment in sociology. You've heard of gluing coins to certain objects and watching people try to pick it up. But these guys take it a bit further. They waited for someone to Climb the Tree for a Dollar.

If you park your car on the street where it snows, you should check to see if there's any snow packed in the wheels of your car. On Monday, after 5 inches of fresh snow over the weekend, I got on the Interstate and began to accelerate. At about 65 mph, the entire car begins to vibrate, much like a cheap massaging chair. While that felt good, it worried me that my entire car was feeling it, and not just my back. Did someone run into my car? Did a snow plow hit one of my wheels? I was confused. I didn't hit anything, so I didn't know what could be going on. So I pulled off at the next exit with a service station, where the mechanic noticed the snow in my left rear wheel. Coincidentally, it was the same side that faces the snow plow. She checked the tire pressures, took a hose and cleaned the wheel out, and said there wasn't much else she could do. (Something about aluminum rims...) She sent me on my way, turning down any form of payment for her time. I was soon back out on the highway, with everything running smoothly.

Two brainteasers I got at work yesterday:

1) A woman shoots her husband. Then she holds him under water for over 5 minutes. Finally, she hangs him. But 5 minutes later they both go out together and enjoy a wonderful dinner together. How can this be?

2) What is black when you buy it, red when you use it, and gray when you throw it away?

Answers are in the comments.

Nick-at-Night started a week long marathon of The Cosby Show tonight. I can remember way back when it was new, my entire family would stop everything and watch the show. I mean everything, the phone wasn't answered, dishes stopped getting washed, and the table clearing was halted. It's very nice to see the old shows. I can remember each and every episode like it was yesterday. Ohhh, the memories.

1. What's your favorite vacation spot? My favorite place that I have ever been to is Denali National Park in Alaska. That's the farthest I have ever been away from home.

2. Where do you consider to be the biggest hell-hole on earth? Any porta-potty at the end of a weekend-long music festival.

3. What would be your dream vacation? I have a honeymoon coming my way. That will be dreamy.

4. If you could go on a road-trip with anyone, who would it be and why? I would take anyone that would be willing to go. A trip to the Pacific Northwest would be cool.

5. What are your plans for this weekend? Got Badger Hockey tonight and tomorrow night. I think there will be a haircut in there too. But it's supposed to snow.
