January 2002 Archives

So I got a new WIRED magazine today. Actually it was December's. Why I got it today I don't know. But in it, there was a UPS ad in it that had different colored UPS trucks in it. It asked the reader if UPS should change the color of their trucks. It decided that no, UPS should not change the color of their trucks, because their network of planes and trucks worked seemlessly, unlike a competitor who just changed colors. (FedEx now has green instead of orange for their ground delivery.) Can you think of a more lame idea for an ad? Am I really going to use UPS now because they have only one color, which is better than the three colors its competitor has? Who ever the dumbass who thought that up should be fired.

I thought that this was funny. Client Quotes: 178/521 You could spend a long time reading all these.

I just realised that the tree that was behind my apartment is now gone. I don't know when they took it, but it's gone. They also destroyed half of the stable that is behind the place, but haven't done anything since. How hard is it to know that a tree is gone? Well, at least I can spy into more apartments now.

Each morning I come into work and log in. On sunny mornings, I have to close the shades in the windows directly behind my desk so that I can read my computer screen. However, there is a space in all miniblinds where the string to pull up the shade is fed through the blinds. That space is just wide enough to let some sun through, and by the time it hits my computer, it's a two-inch wide strip of sunlight. The coolest part is that I can sit and watch it move across my screen. It doesn't take very long, probably 20 minutes total, but it's been crossing later and later in the day as we start to tilt back towards the sun.

This morning, I got a great e-mail from my Dad. Poor guy came into work and was instantly accused of being an animal killer. (There are rumors that PETA will be protesting there this afternoon.) It's not really his fault that his office is conveniently located on the third floor, and that his windows are mirrored enough that birds are able to see their reflection. It’s not his fault that the bird thought his reflection was an enemy and attacked itself, is it? No, not at all. But the pictures he took of the carnage are pretty cool.

I posted more pics of last night on the pics page. It was Jess's birthday. A great time had by all.

Do you think the Olymipics are becoming more for the money? Read this article and let me know .

So far, the hardest part about being engaged (other than telling the same story over and over) is the fact that "I" has turned into "we" and "mine" has turned into "our." Don't get me wrong, that's the point of all this, but I have worked long and hard to acheive and maintain independence. It's a bit tough to remember that I will have to share some of my independence. As hard as it is, I wholely welcome the change.

I hope to have krisandrob.com up tonight with at an "about us" section and the engagement story. We got a wedding planning book last night, and a two more magazines. It's going to be way too easy to spend too much money. If you have any planning tips, I would love to hear them.

Not only am I engaged, but now I am famous. Or, at least I used up a minute and a half of it. I'm in an article on geocaching that is based on my Indian Lake Cache.

Thirteen and a half minutes left.

Well, Kris and I got engaged last Friday night. It's such a happy time. It's so happy, in fact, that I went and bought krisandrob.com to keep track of the engagement process and introduce you to our families and our wedding party. The site still isn't up just yet, but I am working on it.

My Dad send me an e-mail on Saturday after just learning the news. In it, he said, "Nothing has changed. Everything has changed." I have to admit, that sounded dumb when I first read it, but it really is true. We are the same old Kris and Rob, but now she's my fiancée, and it seems that every free moment we have from now on will be spent thinking about the wedding.

Crazy.

I put up pictures from New Years up last night. I didn't really bother to sort out the good from the bad, so you have to deal with all 78 of them. Keep in mind we were with about 25+ people, and at one time had 4 boots circling the table. It was an alcohol-soaked evening. Here's the pictures.

The previous post has always been my favorite poem. That sign is on a path in Indian Lake Park, where hid a cache. The park is one of those great places tucked in the middle of nowhere. There's just a small sign that leads to the entrance of the park and that's all. This sign was at a fork in the trail, where your choice will make all the difference in your skiing or hiking challenge.

THE ROAD NOT TAKEN
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
